Jeans HSN code 8 digit list: men, ladies, jeggings and denim
At 8 digits, men’s cotton denim jeans are 6203 42 90 and women’s are 6204 62 90, unless the denim is handloom (6203 42 10 or 6204 62 10). The GST portal’s HSN master, read on 11 Oct 2026, still lists the undivided 6203 42 00 and 6204 62 00 lines beside these splits; at 6 digits all of them are simply 620342 and 620462.
The master has no line named jeans, so these are trouser lines read for a jeans seller; denim cloth on a roll (last two rows) takes the fabric rate.

Denim jeans HSN code vs denim fabric and denim jacket: three different codes
There is no tariff line called "jeans" or "denim" in chapter 62 of the ITC-HS list, so a pair of jeans is coded as trousers by who wears it and what fibre it is. Cotton denim jeans for men or boys sit under 6203 42 (line 6203 42 90); for women or girls, 6204 62 (line 6204 62 90). We checked the DGCIS chapter 62 PDF for both words on 10 Oct 2026.
The HSN code for denim fabric is 5209 42 00: woven cotton denim with at least 85% cotton, weighing over 200 g/m². If the denim has less than 85% cotton and is blended mainly with man-made fibre, the fabric line is 5211 42 00 instead (DGCIS chapter 52). A denim jacket is 6203 32 (men) or 6204 32 (women); see the jacket HSN code page.
Codes and rates for jeans on other sites that do not fit
In a 4 Oct 2026 Google search for "jeans hsn code", one ranking page gave 5211 32 40. The DGCIS text for 5211 32 40 reads "Trousers or pant fabrics (excluding jeans and crepe)", so it is a fabric line that leaves jeans out by name. Another printed a flat 18%, which applies only above ₹2,500 a pair; up to that, jeans are at 5% (PIB factsheet).
A stretch denim that is mostly cotton with a little elastane is still classed as cotton, because Section XI notes 2(A) send a blended textile to the one fibre that predominates by weight (Section XI notes, DGCIS). Polyester-led jeans move to 6203 43 or 6204 63.
Jeans GST rate and HSN digits for a Meesho listing
- Find your jeans in the table above by wearer and main fibre.
- Type 4 digits in the HSN box when your aggregate turnover for the last year was ₹5 crore or less, or 6 digits above ₹5 crore (CBIC Notification 78/2020–Central Tax, from 1 April 2021).
- Set the GST rate from the sale value of one pair: up to ₹2,500 is 5%, more than ₹2,500 is 18% (Notification 9/2025–CT(Rate)).
- Use the same code and rate on the tax invoice and in GSTR-1 Table 12.
Worked case for ladies jeans (illustration): women’s high-waist cotton jeans listed at ₹549 on Meesho take HSN 6204 and GST 5%, or 620462 above ₹5 crore turnover. Men’s cotton jeans would be 6203 (620342), also 5% up to ₹2,500 a pair.

Worked example: men’s polyester-blend stretch jeans
A Jaipur supplier lists men’s stretch jeans at ₹799, made of 60% polyester and 40% cotton by weight. Section XI note 2(A) classifies a blend by the fibre that predominates by weight, so polyester decides it: heading 6203, sub-heading 620343 for synthetic trousers, and 8-digit line 6203 43 00, not the cotton line 6203 42 90.
At ₹799 a pair, the rate is 5%. In the Supplier Panel catalog form, the HSN box gets 6203 (620343 if last year’s turnover crossed ₹5 crore) and the GST box gets 5%. Notice what happens at 4 digits: the cotton and polyester pairs look identical, and the fibre only shows up from the sixth digit.
HSN code for jeggings, denim shorts and kids jeans
Jeggings are knitted, so they leave chapter 62: women’s cotton jeggings are 6104 62 00, and synthetic ones 6104 63 00 (DGCIS chapter 61). A jegging that only looks like denim but is made of looped knit cloth is not woven denim, whatever the listing title says.
Denim shorts are in the same sub-headings as jeans, because the 6203 4x and 6204 6x lines cover trousers, breeches and shorts together. Men’s cotton denim shorts are 6203 42 and women’s 6204 62. Kids jeans follow the wearer: boys’ 6203, girls’ 6204.
