How to calculate CGST and SGST
Work out the full GST first: GST = price × rate ÷ 100. Then split it. On a sale inside your own state, half is CGST and half is SGST, so 5% becomes 2.5% CGST + 2.5% SGST and 18% becomes 9% + 9%. On a sale to a buyer in another state, the whole amount is IGST (Source: CGST/SGST/IGST structure, CBIC). Example: a ₹3,000 lehenga is above ₹2,500 a piece, so it pays 18%: GST ₹540, which is CGST ₹270 + SGST ₹270 in your state, or IGST ₹540 across states, for a bill of ₹3,540.
Reverse GST: remove GST from a price
Marketplace prices usually include GST. To find the price before tax, divide by 1 + rate ÷ 100; do not just subtract the rate. A ₹399 kurti at 5%: 399 ÷ 1.05 = ₹380.00 before tax and ₹19.00 of GST, the same figures our Meesho commission calculator uses. Subtracting 5% of ₹399 would give ₹19.95, which is wrong. In the calculator above, pick Inclusive to do this.
GST on clothes: what changed on 22 Sept 2025
Since 22 September 2025, readymade garments and made-up textile articles (chapters 61, 62 and 63) pay 5% if the sale value is ₹2,500 a piece or less and 18% above that. The test runs on each piece, not on the order total. Before that date the limit was ₹1,000 a piece and anything above it paid 12%. Woven silk, cotton and man-made fabrics and knitted fabrics are 5%. GST kaise calculate kare (Hinglish)
GST kaise calculate kare: price ko rate se guna karo aur 100 se bhaag do. ₹1,000 ki kurti par 5% GST = ₹50, total ₹1,050. Apne hi state mein bechne par ₹25 CGST aur ₹25 SGST lagta hai; doosre state mein ₹50 IGST. Kapde par GST kitna hai? ₹2,500 tak ke piece par 5%, ₹2,500 se upar 18%. Agar price mein GST pehle se shamil hai, to price ko 1.05 (ya 1.18) se bhaag karo, base price mil jayega.
