Answer: a dupatta is 2.5 m long (98 in) and as wide as the roll, 44 in on a 44 in roll. One full-width dupatta needs 2.5 m of cloth.
Source: StitchMagic calculator defaults, the same 2.5 m our fabric and lehenga calculators add for a dupatta; last checked 18 Oct 2026. No official body publishes a dupatta standard.
Standard dupatta size in every unit
| Metres | Inches | Centimetres | Yards | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Length | 2.5 m | 98 in | 250 cm | 2.73 yd |
| Width (44 in roll) | 1.12 m | 44 in | 112 cm | 1.22 yd |
How much meter cloth required for dupatta, by roll width
Metres for 10 dupattas of 2.5 m, for a boutique or seller cutting a batch at once. Narrow dupattas share a length when two fit across the roll.
| Dupatta width | 36 in roll | 44 in roll | 60 in roll |
|---|---|---|---|
| 22 in | 25 m | 12.5 m | 12.5 m |
| 30 in | 25 m | 25 m | 12.5 m |
| 44 in | 50 m (joined) | 25 m | 25 m |
"Joined" means the dupatta is wider than the roll and has to be made from two strips; buy a wider roll instead if you can.
Dupatta length and width: what to change
Keep 2.5 m for a suit, anarkali or lehenga dupatta that goes over one shoulder or both. Change the width, not the length, for a stole: at 22 in, two come out of one 44 in roll, so 2.5 m makes two. For the rest of the outfit, the blouse calculator and the lehenga calculator use the same 2.5 m when they add a dupatta to the set. Choosing the cloth itself is covered in the dupatta fabric guide.

2.5 m long, and as wide as the roll it is cut from: 44 in (1.12 m) on a 44 in roll. These are StitchMagic calculator defaults; no official standard exists.
How many meters of cloth are required for a dupatta?
2.5 m for one full-width dupatta. If the dupatta is half the roll width or less, two fit across, so 2.5 m gives two 22 in dupattas from a 44 in roll.

We use 2.5 m (2.73 yards), the same figure in our lehenga, anarkali and fabric calculators. Change the length in the calculator if your design needs a longer drape.
How much fabric do I need for 10 dupattas?
25 m of 44 in fabric for 10 full-width dupattas, or 12.5 m if each is 22 in wide, because two fit across the roll.
