Embroidery cost per stitch in India
Machine embroidery is quoted per 1,000 stitches, so the stitch count of the digitised design sets the cost. The calculator multiplies stitches ÷ 1,000 by the rate and by a complexity factor (simple ×0.8, medium ×1, complex ×1.35, premium ×1.8). Its region presets for machine work run from ₹0.35 to ₹0.80 per 1,000 stitches; they are indicative figures built into the tool, not verified quotes. No official body publishes embroidery rates in India, so type the rate your embroidery unit gives you into the rate box and the result follows it. Embroidery charges: machine vs hand work
Machine work is priced by stitches. Hand work is priced by the unit the craft uses: zardozi per square inch, chikankari and aari per piece, kantha per metre of fabric, phulkari per dupatta and Kashmiri kashida per shawl. Pick the embroidery type and the calculator switches to that unit; the result is the cost for one unit, and the quantity box multiplies it. Thread, backing, digitising and the fabric itself are not in the embroidery charge; add them to your costing before you set a price. For the cloth, the lehenga fabric calculator and the fabric calculator give the metres.
Embroidery work price list: what the presets are
No official embroidery price list exists for India, so the calculator carries its own presets by craft and region, loaded when you pick a type and a region. Machine work is listed per 1,000 stitches (₹0.35 to ₹0.80 across its six regions), zardozi per square inch, chikankari and aari per piece, kantha per metre, phulkari per dupatta and Kashmiri kashida per shawl. Treat them as a starting point to compare a quote against, not a rate card: they are indicative values built into the tool, not quotes we have verified. How to use the embroidery cost calculator
1. Pick the embroidery type. 2. Pick a region to load its preset, or click a row in the rate table. 3. Type your unit's quoted rate over the preset. 4. For machine work, set the stitch count shown by the digitising software. 5. Pick the design complexity, quantity and your margin. The cost, the total and the price to quote update as you change any input, and the line under the result shows the arithmetic.
Embroidery price: worked example
A 5,000-stitch machine design at ₹0.50 per 1,000 stitches, medium complexity: 5,000 ÷ 1,000 × ₹0.50 × 1 = ₹2.50 per piece. For 100 pieces the embroidery charge is ₹250. With a 30% margin the price to quote is ₹2.50 × 1.3 = ₹3.25 per piece. If your unit quotes ₹1 per 1,000 stitches instead, enter 1 and the cost becomes ₹5.00 per piece. These are the calculator defaults, used here only to show the arithmetic.
