How much fabric is required for sharara, by flare and width
| Style (pants) | 36 in roll | 44 in roll | 60 in roll | Suit (44 in) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Palazzo | 3.75 m | 3 m | 2.5 m | 7.5 m |
| Sharara, light flare | 4.25 m | 3.5 m | 3 m | 8 m |
| Sharara, medium flare | 5.5 m | 4.5 m | 3.75 m | 9 m |
| Sharara, heavy flare | 7.25 m | 6 m | 5 m | 10.5 m |
| Gharara | 9.75 m | 8 m | 6.5 m | 12.5 m |
Suit total = pants + 2 m knee-length kurti (the figure our fabric calculator uses) + 2.5 m dupatta. 36 in = +20%, 60 in = -20%, rounded up to 0.25 m.
How much meter cloth required for gharara
A gharara is fitted from the waist to the knee, joined at the knee (often under a gota band) and flared below it. The flared part is cut as many panels, which is why it takes the most cloth here: 8 m on 44 in fabric and 9.75 m on 36 in. A sharara flares from higher up with fewer joins, so a heavy-flare sharara needs 6 m.
How to take sharara measurement
- Waist: round your natural waist, where the drawstring will sit.
- Hip: round the fullest part; it decides how wide each leg panel starts.
- Length: waist to ankle, wearing the footwear you plan to use.
- Roll width: ask the shop; pick 36, 44 or 60 in in the calculator.
- Flare: agree it with your tailor. A heavier flare adds 1.5 m over medium on 44 in fabric.
Taller than 5 ft 5 in? Tick the box and the calculator adds 0.5 m. For a lehenga instead of a sharara, the lehenga fabric calculator works out kalis per row from the same roll widths; for the top, the blouse calculator covers a short blouse.
