How much cloth is required for salwar kameez
The suit figure covers the kameez and the salwar together, without the dupatta. On 44 in fabric: 4.5 m for S/M, 5 m for L/XL, 5.5 m for XXL and above. On 36 in fabric those become 5.5, 6 and 6.75 m; on 60 in, 3.75, 4 and 4.5 m.
A full suit with a 2.5 m dupatta is 7 m (S/M), 7.5 m (L/XL) or 8 m (XXL+) on 44 in fabric. A long kameez, a churidar with extra gathers, or a patiala salwar takes more; tell the shop the style before it cuts.
Dupatta size in meters
Our calculators use 2.5 m for a standard dupatta: 250 cm, 98.4 in or 2.73 yd. A dupatta is woven to length, so it is the same on any roll. Its width is the width it was woven at; read it off the label or measure selvedge to selvedge. For dupatta styles, widths and half-saree dupattas, see the dupatta fabric guide.
Fabric measurement chart: how roll width changes the meters
The chart above is built on a 44 in roll. For cut garments (suit, kurti, anarkali, men's wear) a 36 in single panna roll needs 20% more and a 60 in double panna roll 20% less, each rounded up to the next 0.25 m. The blouse and lehenga rows come from their own calculators, which work out the layout piece by piece, so they do not follow the 20% rule exactly. Saree lengths (5.5 m standard 6 yard, 6.5 m with blouse piece, 8.25 m nauvari 9 yard) do not change with width.
1 meter cloth length in inches, cm and yards
| Meters | Centimetres | Inches | Yards |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 m | 100 cm | 39.4 in | 1.09 yd |
| 2 m | 200 cm | 78.7 in | 2.19 yd |
| 2.5 m | 250 cm | 98.4 in | 2.73 yd |
| 4.5 m | 450 cm | 177.2 in | 4.92 yd |
| 5.5 m | 550 cm | 216.5 in | 6.01 yd |
1 m = 39.37 in = 1.094 yd. Shops quote length along the selvedge; the width is the roll width.
