Kolkata wholesale market for clothes: inside Burrabazar
Burrabazar mixes trades: electronics and stationery as well as textiles. Phone dealers before travelling and ask for their exact shop address; that saves more time than any map.
Getting there by metro needs care. Metro Railway Kolkata’s Blue Line fare chart lists Mahatma Gandhi Road, Central, Chandni Chowk and Esplanade, yet its places-of-interest entry for Mahatma Gandhi Road names Thakurbari at Jorasanko, not Burrabazar. Since Metro Railway itself names no station for Burrabazar, plan your route on its site rather than trusting a guide’s “nearest station”.
Wikipedia describes Posta as an extension of Burrabazar’s wholesale trade, dealing in edible oil, salt, cereals and spices. It is not where Kolkata sells cloth.

Handloom is bought for its weave, so run these four checks at dealers’ counters in Bara Bazar, before money changes hands.
Weave density, held to light
Hold a fold up to daylight. Loose weaves that look substantial folded can turn sheer when worn, and buyers who feel misled send them back to your Meesho return queue.
Selvedge
Look along the selvedge. Handwoven cloth shows small variations along selvedges that powerloom cloth does not, and that variation is what you charge for when listings say “handloom”.
Blouse piece
Confirm whether one is attached, whether it matches, and measure its length. Saree buyers on Meesho ask; answer by looking, not by assuming.
Handwoven irregularity or defect?
Slightly uneven picks are handloom traits. Holes, broken warp threads or dye patches are faults, and you should learn to tell them apart on samples before buying bundles.
